Gunners crush Toffees

Arsenal produced a stunning opening-day performance to thrash Everton 6-1 underline boss Arsene Wenger's belief his young stars can win the title. The goal Arsenal had been threatening arrived after 26 minutes. Bendtner surged in from the left before flicking a pass to Cesc Fabregas, who instantly turned the ball into Denilson's path.
The pace of the move left Everton floundering, and the fine strike from the Brazilian from just outside the area dipped and curled into the top corner.Van Persie's free-kick from the right found Vermaelen beyond the far post, and the defender headed back into the bottom corner for a fine debut goal. Gallas headed home another free-kick, this time from Fabregas, the defending was even worse.Everton were caught by a pitch-length move from Arsenal that ended with Fabregas cruising into the box to send his shot past Howard. After 69 minutes he collected a throw from Manuel Almunia and ran from inside his own half without facing a tackle to drive home the fifth. But Eduardo still had time to score the sixth, netting from close in after Andrey Arshavin's shot had come back off a post with two minutes to go.

Van Persie signs off with brace

Arsenal swept aside Stoke with three quick first-half goals to sign off in style from a difficult Premier League campaign with a 4-1 win. An own goal from James Beattie, making his 300th league appearance, was swiftly followed up by a penalty from Robin van Persie.

Barcelona 2 - 0 Manchester United

Manchester United discovered what it is like to lose a European Cup final as brilliant Barcelona ruled Rome on Wednesday, securing a comfortable 2-0 win.
If there is any consolation in failure to become the first side to retain the trophy in the Champions League era, it is that they lost to a side as fluent and brilliant to watch as they are.
Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi scored the goals either side of half-time but to single those two out for special praise would be unfair on their team-mates, and particularly Xavi, who was simply awesome. The Cameroon striker cut inside Nemanja Vidic, then held off Michael Carrick as he prodded the ball goalward with enough strength to take it past Edwin van der Sar.When Xavi saw his free-kick come thumping back off a post, memories of 1999 and the mauling United nearly took at the hands of Bayern Munich sprang to mind.Sadly it did. Quite quickly as Xavi's curling cross dropped perfectly for Messi, who guided his header over Van der Sar.

Wenger will demand strong start from Arsenal

Key to Arsenal's progress in 2010 will be not only keeping the likes of captain Cesc Fabregas but also adding to a side which came up short when it mattered.
Fulham centre-half
Brede Hangeland, Ajax's £7.5m-rated Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen are both reported defensive targets, while Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and England international Gareth Barry, of Aston Villa, have been linked with a summer move to Emirates.
Should Togo striker
Emmanuel Adebayor be cashed in on - with reports of a £20m offers from AC Milan, Manchester City and Chelsea all in the pipeline, then Wenger could well turn to Blackburn forward Roque Santa Cruz, who will almost certainly leave Ewood Park.
Fabregas said: ''It is very important for this club to start winning trophies again, to be back at our best, so we are annoyed we could not do it this season.
''We definitely need to improve in some areas and do better as a squad. I believe that, next season, we will be stronger.
''We are really disappointed because we did not achieve what we wanted to this year, so it is up to us to come back stronger next time. I am confident we can do that.''
Fabregas added: ''We will see what happens in the summer, but the boss knows what is missing and I am sure he will do something about it.''

Wenger - Henry deserves Euro Final success

“I would want him to do well because I know one thing he needs and he deserves in his career is a successful Final. People don’t realise what happened to him in 2006.
“He played in the Champions League Final and just lost. He knows he had the chance to score the second goal. Then he went on and played in the World Cup Final and they lost on penalties. When you are 30 years-old, how much does that hurt?
“You think that might be my last chance to be in there. For him to go back into the Final and do well is very important.
“So I will support him in this game. That’s not Barcelona. I would just want him to play well and then I want the team who plays the best to win.”

Walcott and Gibbs named in Under-21 squad

Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs have both been named in Stuart Pearce’s 23-man squad for this summer’s Uefa Under-21 European Championships.Despite being included in Fabio Capello’s senior squad for England’s clashes with Kazakhstan and Andorra in June, the rapid winger will leave for the Under-21 training camp in Spain next week.Gibbs has also earned himself a place in the squad after impressing in friendlies for both the Under-20s and Under-21s earlier in the year.England Under-21 squad for European Championships:GoalkeepersJoe Hart (Manchester City), Joe Lewis (Peterborough United), Scott Loach (Watford)DefendersMartin Cranie (Portsmouth), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Michael Mancienne (Chelsea), Nedum Onuoha (Manchester City), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Andrew Taylor (Middlesbrough), Steven Taylor (Newcastle United), James Tomkins (West Ham United)MidfieldersLee Cattermole (Wigan Athletic), Andrew Driver (Hearts), Craig Gardner (Aston Villa), Adam Johnson (Middlesbrough), James Milner (Aston Villa), Fabrice Muamba (Bolton Wanderers), Mark Noble (West Ham United), Jack Rodwell (Everton)ForwardsTheo Walcott (Arsenal) Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Frazier Campbell (Tottenham Hotspur - on Loan), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)

Singapore won its first Olympic medal since independence in Women's Table Tennis team event, 48 years after its first medal also a silver by Tan Howe Liang in the 1960 Summer Olympics, on 17 August 2008.As a young nation Singapore understands the important of young people. Singapore is a global sucess country that compiles of age, race and cultures.Singapore heavily invest in sports and also arts. Our education system is one of the best but we also play hard.

I think YOG is about Friendship and Respect to your opponent. In YOG , it is not only about winning the medals but to put in your best efforts and try your very best to win a medal. If not at least we know that we have give it our all.For example our Singapore's Table Tennis Team, even they do not get the gold medal, they manage to clinch bronze which i think is preety excellent as Singapore had their first medal for many years. They tried their best even though they are challenging China which had won millions of trophies from past olympics and recent olympics. As Singapore is a young country, we have yet to train more than other countries like China, United States Of America or even Africa. I believe that when we are train more and be prepared for the upcoming Olympic, we can clinch bronze , silver or even gold.

CME Lesson: Write up stories for Singapore Youth Olympic

Singapore had made history by hosting the Youth Olympic 2010 games.

We all know Singapore Youth Olympic values which are honest, discipline and respect. Singapore is cranking up the publicity for its bid to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2010.

With less than ten days left before the official bid document is submitted on 26 October, a website and logo were unveiled on Tuesday to rally the whole nation to support the bid. Singapore's national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, is used for the official logo, which is accompanied with the tagline 'Blazing the Trail' to show the nation's entrepreneurial and can-do spirit.

There is a video on Youtube which promotes this event to reach out to other Singaporeans.
Singapore feels it may have an advantage over the nine other cities that are bidding for the Games.

The Youth Olympic Games will see some 3,500 athletes, from ages 14 to 18, competing in 26 sports events.

We are very very proud of Singapore to have the opportunity to host this amazing event.

  • Friendship
  • Exellence
  • Respect
  1. The Context of the Games and the Olympic Spirit:-
Today, the Olympic Games are the world's largest pageant of athletic skill and competitive spirit. They are also displays of nationalism, commerce and politics. These two opposing elements of the Olympics are not a modern invention. The conflict between the Olympic movement's high ideals and the commercialism or political acts which accompany the Games has been noted since ancient times.
  2. So friendship has been taking part on every Olympic event as they get to meet each other and make friends. The excellence is by competing with other people in other country to win something and never GIVE UP!!! Respect is by respecting other people if they won something , respecting participant when they are participating and many more.
  3. The Recent Beijing Olympic:-
Since July 13, 2001, when Beijing won the right at the 112th plenary meeting of the International Olympics Committee to host the 29th Olympic Games, Chinese people under the auspices of the Chinese government have been endeavoring to make the 29th the best games ever. Arsenal VS AS Roma

ARSENAL NEWS:

By Richard Clarke at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome
Arsenal are into the Champions League Quarter-Finals after an incredible night of drama at the Stadio Olimipcio.
Juan’s early goal cancelled out the advantage Arsène Wenger’s side had gained in the first leg. The rest of normal time and extra time remained goalless so this nervous but entertaining tie went to penalties.
Eduardo missed the first of the shoot-out but later on Manuel Almunia saved from Mario Vucinic to level up the scores. The crucial miss at 7-6 in sudden death came when Max Tonetto blazed high over the bar.
Arsenal march on. And hopefully their smattering of good fortune tonight will help them return to Rome for the Champions League Final in May.
At his press conference on Tuesday morning, Wenger said he had a decision to make over a couple of positions. In the end, he stuck with side that had won 1-0 in the first leg at fortnight ago. It was 4-2-3-1, now the standard in Europe it seems, with Van Persie supported by a triumvirate of
Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Eboue and Nicklas Bendtner. Behind them, Abou Diaby and Denilson protected a back four that was reinforced by the return of Kolo Toure after a calf injury.
Around the half-hour, Arsenal did start to find their feet. And they came closest to scoring when
Gael Clichy swirling left-wing cross found Diaby’s head. The Frenchman’s effort had power but was directed straight at Doni, who gathered with relative ease.
Van Persie nodded over and Eboue hacked horribly wide. Neither chance was ever going in but it was testament to the fact that Arsenal were on the offensive.
However, a minute before the break, came a crucial moment. Gallas lost the ball venturing too far forward and Totti’s chip sent Motta sprinting clear on the right with Clichy in pursuit. The two defenders ended up a heap in the area and Roma seemed convinced it was a penalty. Referee Manuel Gonzalez waved play on.
The Spanish official was given the benefit of the home fans’ opinion as he walked off Arsenal needed half-time. They had been second-best and wise words for Wenger were required.
Although Roma started the second period quickly with substitute Julio Baptista nodding wide and Riise firing in a free-kick, the visitors were making matters more even.
Toure’s drive was deflected wide and, from the corner,
Bacary Sagna powered a header straight at Doni.
Diaby and Eboue were inches away from providing defence-splitting passes to Van Persie and Bendtner respectively.
But, at the other end, Totti was starting to do what Totti does. He found intelligent space just outside the area and went close with a couple of drives from distance – one flew wide of Almunia’s post, the other into his chest.
The game was a real cup-tie now. There was little containment in midfield as both sides went for the crucial next goal.
In the 64th minute, Nasri’s corner was punched clear to Diaby who weaved himself some space on the edge of the area and poked an effort just wide.
However Arsenal could not maintain their momentum and, as a result, Wenger withdrew Eboue for Walcott 10 minutes later. It added pace and urgency to Arsenal but it was Roma who would forge the real tie-killing chance before the end.
In the 79th minute, Taddei stormed down the right and Totti touched his low cross to the unmarked Baptista 10 yards out. All the sliding Brazilian had to do was guide the ball home but it hit the outside of his foot and flew wide.
A massive let-off for Arsenal.
Extra-time was now looming and so Wenger made another change –
Eduardo for Bendtner. The Croatian was quickly involved and helped the visitors create a couple of decent chances just before the end of normal time.
First Van Persie bobbled a deflected shot just wide from the edge of the box. The corner found Walcott on the left, his deep cross was nodded back into the six-yard box by Van Persie and Toure heaved a header over the bar from a few feet out.
The Ivorian lay disappointed on the grass for a few seconds then sprang up, dusted himself down and raced back to his position.
He had 30 more minutes of work to do.
Extra-time is often a disappointment these days. By this point, both sides are all too aware of what they have to lose.
That seemed the mentality this evening. Roma had pressure in the first period of extra-time but the best chance came in the 100th minute when
Denilson bustled through on the right of the area and Van Persie hoiked the Brazilian’s cross over the bar.
Walcott tested Doni early in the second period but, in the 114th minute, it took a superbly timed challenge from Toure to dispossess Baptista as he bore down on goal.
However the side could not be divided in three and an half hours of football. So the tie would be decided from 12 yards.
Eduardo took the first for Arsenal and Doni saved low to his right. Pizarro then scored to give Roma the advantage. Van Persie’s coolly converted then Almunia saved easily from Mario Vucinic’s cheeky effort to level matters at 2-2. Walcott just managed to squirm his shot through Doni’s fingers and Baptista blasted a thunderbolt into the top of the net.
Nasri’s effort was placed to the keeper’s left and Vincenzo Montella almost skipped his effort in to the corner for 3-3.
It was now effectively sudden death.
Denilson rattled his penalty straight down the middle and it was left to Totti to complete the first five apiece. He did so with aplomb.
Toure took a long run up and then sidefooted home Aquilani response was impish and accurate – 5-5.
Sagna opted for a short run and stroked the ball in the corner. Riise just squeezed his left-foot drive past Almunia’s outstretched left-hand - 6-6.
Diaby scored with nonchalance and it was Tonetto who fired over the bar.
Wenger’s men had kept their nerve with an excellent set of penalties. It had been two well-matched sides in an incredibly tense tie but Arsenal
were through.

ARSENAL NEWS:
Samir Nasri believes Arsenal deserved more from a “conquering” performance against Roma on Tuesday night.

Nasri, given the freedom to roam in a central role, was one of the Gunners’ brightest sparks throughout their vital first-leg victory at Emirates Stadium. But despite creating a hatful of chances Arsène Wenger’s side will only take a one-goal advantage to the Stadio Olimpico in a fortnight.

The Frenchman thought that his side deserved more for their tireless endeavours but is certain that a repeat performance in the Italian capital should be enough to book a place in the Quarter-Finals.

“We probably deserved a higher score,” said Nasri. “We created some good opportunities. Now we have to repeat the performance in the return match.

"I think this result is not too bad, even though we could have won it with a larger score. But fortunately we managed not to concede any goals. The positive ahead of the second leg is that tonight we’ve seen a conquering Arsenal side, with a good defensive display. This is very encouraging for the challenges to come.

“We are confident for the second leg as we start that game with a 1-0 lead. We are confident about our means and are convinced we can succeed."

After only one goal in their last four Premier League games, Van Persie’s 37-minute penalty was a very welcome tonic for Arsenal, who had already squandered some decent opportunities before the Dutchman struck.

Nasri admits that the Giallorossi afforded Arsenal more space than the recent English visitors to the Emirates, resulting in more fluid movement in the final third.

“Unlike in the league, tonight we had more space to move,” said the 21-year-old. “We have managed to create the gaps we needed and we made a lot of movement. Now we have to try to repeat the same performance again. With a 1-0 lead one would try to play the second leg in its usual way.

“We have seen that it is important not to let this team play their own game, that’s what we succeeded very well tonight.”
